Children's Catechumenate (2nd - 11th Grade)

The Children’s Catechumenate is adaptable for children not baptized as infants.  The St. Patrick’s Children’s Catechumenate is established for children 7 years of age and older who are seeking Christian initiation with the support and direction of their parents or guardians.
 
The Children's Catechumenate is a 2-year process. It requires the following:

1. Regular attendance in the FF catechetical program for 2 years (consecutive and complete)
2. That the child and parents attend all meetings scheduled for the Children’s Catechumenate.
3. Attendance at Sunday Mass every week.
4. Participation in all the rites associated with the process.
5. That the child has the support and encouragement of the family.
6. The child must be at least seven (7) years of age to be enrolled in the first year of preparation.

It is our hope that this process will nourish and strengthen the spiritual growth and commitment of both child and family.

 

RCIA of Adults - Adapted for those in the 12th Grade

 
The ordinary age for Baptism and First Eucharist is the second or third grades.  For Confirmation, it is the eleventh grade.  However, there are circumstances, which have caused some individuals to delay receiving the Sacraments until a much older age.
 
When this occurs it is the responsibility of the church to assure that these individuals are adequately prepared to receive the Sacraments (Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and confirmation) of initiation.
Experience has shown that teens in the 12 ^th grade who are lacking Sacraments are also lacking in the growth and practice of their faith.  In order that these teens may have a better understanding of their faith and fuller participation in the church, the bishops have established an extensive faith growth process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).  This process has been adapted for our twelfth graders.

It is our policy that unbaptized teens in the 12th grade follow this process:

1. Attend FF classes for a full school year.
2. Attend with few or no absences.
3. Attend Liturgy (Mass) every week.
4. Learn the required material.  (Prayers, etc.)
5. Bring the birth certificate at the beginning of the FF school year.
6. Be registered for both faith formation and RCIA classes. (they are separate)

The process and goals for the youth’s Catechumenate are the same as for the RCIA.  It is our hope that his process will nourish and strengthen the spiritual growth and commitment of both the teen and family.
